I kinda just post here about my travels around Asia, the types of food I eat (pig intestines at a dai pai dong joint in a back alley of Hong Kong anyone?), whatever odd beers I find, cool shops that I happen upon, and anything that strikes my fancy.
So.
Did you expect to find a craft beer festival in the middle of Beijing? Neither did I. What a surprise then to find out, soon upon arriving on my last trip to Beijing, that the First Annual Beijing Craft Beer Festival would be happening and I had to go.
Read MoreI've been meaning to make it up to this beach for a long time. Its in the middle of nowhere and takes a serious process to make it up there. Tai Long Wan is actually not an officially sanctioned Hong Kong beach, its at the edge of a nature reserve in Hong Kong. To get to it you basically gotta ride the bus halfway to mainland China. Then take some speedboat and then hike over a mountain. Totally worth it though.

I'm actually writing this with a bit of wonderful paprika burn still going on in and around my lips from eating old bay laden crabs. I decided I needed to update my earlier post about cooking Maryland Style Crab in China.
Read MoreI went back to Boston a month ago to visit my girlfriend Christina. I could go into how great it was to see my love, but I think thats rather obvious. It was amazing. It was stupendous. It was fantabulous. She gave me a LomoKino for my birthday, kinda like an oldschool hand cranked video camera that uses 35mm still camera film, and I had fun using it on a trip up the coast to Manchester by the Sea and Gloucester. Had to scan each frame individually, but it was a really great experience to build this short movie up. I can't wait to use it again when she visits me in Hong Kong in a few weeks! I can't fucking wait. I miss that girl...
Read MoreSo I've cooked Chinese Crab like we eat in Maryland. But how are crabs eaten in Hong Kong? Well, two ways it seems. One is a super rare delicacy called Hairy Crab and are only in season in the fall and early winter. I haven't tried these crabs yet. But year round, crab fans in Hong Kong flock to a crab joint known as Under Bridge Spicy Crab. Originally a Dai Pai Dong street food establishment, it became so popular that it is now a popular chain of 3-4 restaurants around the city.
Read MoreSo this was a while back, but I'm playing catch up here. Beertopia was Hong Kong's first real craft beer festival, and was held in Hong Kong's Western Market. Hong Kong also has this other 'craft beer' festival held a few months later, but the most interesting beer they have is usually Budweiser. Not my idea of a craft beer festival at all! I want interesting micro brews from the region and tasty imports from the US, Australia, and the UK.
